Dr.
Matheson has helped senior management of firms in the United States
and Europe improve the value of R&D, product development,
innovation, capital investment and strategy. His practical
experience covers a wide variety of industries, including software
development, biotechnology, telecommunications, chemicals,
pharmaceuticals, manufacturing, electric power and entertainment. He
is co-author of the best selling book, The Smart Organization:
Creating Value through Strategic R&D (Harvard Business School
Press). He co-founded SmartOrg in 2000, after a decade of consulting
as a principal at SDG, to bring value-based management processes to
customers through advanced software systems. His Ph.D. is from
Stanford University where he is also a lecturer in the Advanced
Project Management Program.
Jim
Matheson was formerly a founder and managing director of SDG, where
he served as Chief Technology Officer and director of the R&D
consulting practice. He is a recognized authority on strategic
decision-making and decision analysis and is an Associate Professor
in Management Science at Stanford University. With David Matheson,
he is co-author of The Smart Organization. During his 30 years of
consulting experience, Jim led engagements for many of the world’s
leading R&D and technology-intensive companies. Prior to joining SDG,
Jim founded and led the Decision Analysis Group at SRI
International. His Ph.D. is from Stanford University.
Don Creswell, Co-Founder, Vice President Sales and Marketing |
Don
Creswell spent 12 years at SDG where he was Vice President and
General Manager of SDG Decision Systems, a software and education
arm; General Manager of the Decision Quality Association and
director of that organization’s Intelligent Decision Systems
software organization; Director of Practice Development for the R&D
management consulting practice; and Director of The Smart
Organization Program. Prior to joining SDG, Don was a senior
management consultant at SRI International, Vice President of Pan
American World Airways, and Marketing Vice President of an RCA high
tech division.

Peter
McNamee is an expert in the development and application of decision
analysis software. He is co-author of Decision Analysis for the
Professional, now in its third edition. Formerly a principal at SDG,
he specialized in training and developing software decision aids,
such as Supertree. He has experience in a wide variety of
industries, from automotive to oil and gas, telecommunications to
new ventures. Peter holds a Ph.D. in physics from Stanford
University.
Prior
to joining SmartOrg Mr. Steinfeld was a co-founder and chief
architect of AgentIdea Consulting, technical manager of the
Jefferies-Helfant Group, and vice president, Futures and Options
Technology for Prudential Financial. Mr. Steinfeld brings an
extensive background in architecture and software development to the
SmartOrg software engineering team, including development of trading
systems for equities, options and risk analysis for high profile
Wall Street firms.
